Developed by Global Student Accommodation, the property is located near the prestigious Universities of South Australia and Adelaide, boasting advanced design elements and extensive communal areas to promote students’ holistic living experience
ADELAIDE – June 6, 2022: Yugo Adelaide City, a Global Student Accommodation (GSA) development, has officially opened its doors to students from across the globe. The property is operated by GSA’s operating partner Yugo, the first globally-branded student housing operator, and will offer a truly differentiated living experience to 725 domestic and international students in Adelaide.
At just over 118m high, Yugo Adelaide City is one of Adelaide’s tallest buildings, delivering panoramic views across the city. Featuring extensive communal areas, study spaces, outdoor terraces, a gym, cinema, communal kitchens and lounges, the complex will serve as a hub to enhance the student experience throughout their university years.
Yugo Adelaide City is in a prime location, opposite the universities of South Australia and Adelaide, and start-up hub and business incubator Lot Fourteen. It is a stone’s throw from public transport, retail precinct Rundle Mall and restaurant, café and boutique fashion capital Rundle St, putting students at the heart of Adelaide’s busy commercial and cultural area.
According to Study Adelaide, since Australia’s borders opened to international students in mid-December, South Australia has welcomed the return of more than 7,000 international students to Adelaide. Yugo Adelaide City has also seen positive interest in the newly opened building with 90 per cent of students arriving from international locations.
Tim Klitscher, Managing Director APAC, said Yugo was proud to welcome students to this newly built, flagship Yugo property, a true representation of the Yugo student living experience.
“At Yugo, we’re on a mission to create the world’s most innovative student housing solutions. Our diverse experience and knowledge allows us not only to be connected across different geographies but also helps provide insights from the biggest markets worldwide. As the first and only global student housing brand and operator, Yugo brings more than 30 years’ of experience, and we’re confident Yugo Adelaide City will not only meet but exceed our students’ needs,” Mr Klitscher said.
The development of Yugo Adelaide City was led by GSA Development Director, Travis Harkness. It is GSA’s fifth Australian student housing community, joining properties in Perth and Melbourne.
“I am delighted to have welcomed the first students to Yugo Adelaide City. It’s a milestone that I am incredibly proud of and testament to the team that have worked tirelessly through the COVID-19 pandemic to deliver this $110m development ahead of programme and under budget,” Mr Harkness said.
“Globally, student housing has proven to be a resilient sector throughout the turbulence of the past few years, underpinned by continuing growing demand for higher education globally and a strong preference for in-person learning. We see this across Australia and here in Adelaide, where students are attracted by the economic and cultural opportunities and world-leading status of the University of Adelaide.
“As a global leader in the student housing sector, GSA continues to look at opportunities to execute our growth strategy. In doing so, we work together with our global operating partner, Yugo, to bring decades of expertise to enhance the student living experience in our markets.”
Yugo brings its student-led management approach to the property, designed to enhance the overall university experience. Through collaborative events and projects under the Live Your Best Life program - a holistic living experience developed from the Yugo research of thousands of students worldwide – Yugo empowers residents to live their lives with purpose and impact. This program also supports students through three pillars based on sustainability - YugoEco, education – YuPro, personal development – and YuGrow, to deliver on their needs and expectations.
Marine Engineering student Carla Millaud, 23, arrived in Adelaide from Paris in February, and moved into Yugo Adelaide City in May. Carla loves living in the middle of the city, next to the universities, and within walking distance of her workplace.
“The view is incredible, and the facilities are excellent. There are so many rooms to choose from with attractive prices,” Ms Millaud said.
“I’m really enjoying the city and meeting new people and the diversity is incredible because they’re coming from all over the place. I’m learning so many things about the Australian culture and we’re exploring everything together. Adelaide is very nice, there are so many things to do!”
